Catching Up

Well, managed to get a bit behind over the last couple of weeks but can now report that running is back on track and has progressed since my last update.
We went on holiday to Norfolk for a week during which I ate too many mussels, too much cake and ran too little. In fact, I managed just over 12 miles in 3 runs, which I guess is better than it could have been.
Then I found it hard to run last week, but managed a 4-mile run and a 5 mile run followed up by my quickest 3 miles this evening, so while it was hard work it's a reasonable week (by my standards) and if I can hate this evening's run and still be quicker over 3 miles than I have been before, that's good news really.
Looking forward to my 10K on 29th March and still on course to beat 1hr for the 6.2 miles, still looking forward to an Autumn marathon.

Le Weekend

A bit of a funny day on Sunday! Got up early and ran 4-and-a-half miles. The benefits of running before breakfast are great - your metabolism stays high all day and because you've not eaten in over 8 hours your body burns stored energy - IE fat - rather than food.
Problem is, the downside is that because you're running on empty, with no fuel available, it's hard work! I got home knackered and my time wasn't that quick either. That said, it was still a better average speed than I've been achieving!
I'm also practising being Welsh, because England are so crap at rugby at the moment that I don't want to be English on a rugby front! That in itself is hard and I've still not got to grips with England being unable to win. It's kind of too deep-seated, expecting England to win every time they play. Next weekend will be a tough one - Wales v England in Cardiff. It's going to be difficult trying not to be English and disappointed as Wales shaft us (them?).

Hard work getting out!

Finding it difficult to get out and run tonight. Like many, I guess getting out the door is actually the hardest part! Once you've crossed the doorstep it gets easier - sort of! I'm just about to kick myself up the backside and get moving, so watch this space for an update!

Back now - just sat down. Christ, it's cold! Hard work too, but like yesterday, glad I got out and did it. Sore shins and calves today though, which is part of the problem of running on roads when you're overweight. Remind me to get some glucosamine and chondroitin to help with my cartilage.

Sweating hard (nice) but happy as I've finished 4 mins quicker today than I did yesterday, so that's progress. Plus I've got a night off tomorrow so no need to use the personal guilt-trip to get out the door!

First run in 10 days

In a foul mood after failing to get any photos of Lowri and Mummy sledging (well, Mummy was sledging while Lowri was crying, which is what put an end to it), I popped over to SCATs to get some more cat-food and enjoyed the feeling of snowy air on bare legs and decided that despite the snowy, slushy, icy paths I'd go for a run after all.
Running usually helps improve my mood and tonight was no exception as 2.5 miles helped me smile. Not quick, though the first 1.5 miles felt smooth, but back on the wagon.

A good start wasted?

Up until Wednesday 21st February I'd been doing really well. Over Christmas I'd got into my head the idea that I wanted to run a marathon. In fact, I wanted to run the Snowdonia Marathon in October 2009, and I wanted to run it in support of Alzheimer's research and to give myself a big, tangible, hard-to-ignore target to get fit!
According to my schedule, Thursday 22nd February was a rest day, so I rested. Friday was supposed to be a run, as was Saturday, but feeling ill, I decided that discretion was the better part of valour on this occasion, so rested again. I ended up being ill and on antibiotics from 21st February till today, missing 10 days of running.
